This remote is helpful if you are away from the Echo Dot and would like to change the music, ask Alexa a question or give a voice command to your home automation system. It sure beats getting up or shouting at the Echo, it is simply very convenient.
By holding the microphone button down on the remote, you can search for movies, shows, and apps simply by speaking into it. You can’t use it hands-free by saying “Alexa,” but you can optionally pair it with an Echo speaker (or any other Echo device) for hands-free voice control.
You can put the volume up or down, you can pause the track you were listening to or go to the previous track or to the next track. This is a very useful  controller to have and very easy to use.
